The NBA Finals: Spurs execute the sweep, 123-108, win 8th consecutive NBA Championship (4-0).
A familiar sight, Kawhi Leonard won Finals MVP. |
"Winning is a continual desire," Coach Popovich said at center court during the trophy presentation with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. "I believe in our team, I always have, always will. We want to win. Milwaukee, they have a bright future and I got a feeling they may be up here with you one day, Adam. Giannis is a hell of a player, a great ambassador for our league. He's got a very promising career ahead of him, and I wish Coach Bud the best in taking the team forward after a fabulous year. Thank you."
Things looked grim early, the Bucks falling by 10 in the first quarter, coming out a bit flat. Avery Bradley nabbed two steals, the lead 32-21 after Dejounte Murray blocked George Hill at the rim. The Spurs then went on an 11-3 run, with two three-pointers splashed in by big man Labissiere. Even O'Quinn was dropping Js on Milwaukee, the defense not fluid for the Bucks in a shutout game.
The Australian Sniper all but ended it early with a far bomb from somewhere in Wisconsin, angering Bledsoe and Antetokounmpo into fierce dunks on the other end. It didn't spark a turnaround, though, only more turnovers by the Bucks, bad passes being picked off by San Antonio's sound defensive pressure. The Spurs led 67-46 at halftime.
Next? Another 11-2 run, making the lead twenty-nine points as the Spurs led 97-74 heading into the final period, the conclusion nearly certain. The Spurs would run out of steam and go cold, allowing the Bucks to save face and trim the deficit to 12, before Iman Shumpert crashed in the 3PT dagger.
Impressive over four games, Leonard took Finals MVP honors, shooting 50% from 3PT territory and 60%+ overall in the series. Avery Bradley had a great showing with 25 points in 25 minutes, 10-14 FG%, 3 steals with 1 block. Skal Labissiere also looked nice tonight with 22 points and 8 rebounds, doing tremendously in his first playoffs experience. Dejounte Murray had 15 points; Mills had 14 points with 10 assists, carrying the offense.
Bowing out of the Finals, the Bucks were led by Brook Lopez's 21 points and 16 rebounds. Antetokounmpo had only 16 points, but 7 rebounds with 9 assists. Once again, Milwaukee's shooters struggled: Bledsoe & Middleton went 9-23 as a pair, with Mirotic also going 5-13.
