Western Conference Finals: Spurs seize advantage, after gritty comeback (3-1).
"The Warriors running out of time here..."-Kevin Harlan |
The Spurs were in trouble, especially with Patty Mills taken out of the game after a 1-8 flurry, in danger of going back home 2-2, their hard work thus far all but nixed from the reality ahead. What wound up happening silenced the Oakland faithful and left the Warriors bowing heads in disbelief and exhaustion, having lost two chances at home to take over this series.
The most taxing concern was the rebounding disavantage, so Coach Pop put Joakim Noah back into the game to start the final two quarters and kept him there, instantly paying dividends as Golden State went cold. Noah finished with 14 rebounds and 6 points, with the block of the game on Cousins that led to a dagger by Iman Shumpert (24 points, 4 3PT, 2 steals) from may have been the parking lot of the ORACLE Arena. Meanwhile, Kawhi Leonard finished with 40 points, 5 steals, 3 blocks and five 3PT makes on the night.
Dejounte Murray has taken over as floor general. |
Dejounte Murray buried a 3PTer after a broken play, then Shump dumped his game all over the Warriors, hitting a trio of 3PTers and a baseline J over Klay, 108-100 Spurs. Leonard came and went past 37 points hitting a three of his own, as the Warriors kept whiffing on long range heaves. A 21-8 run ensued, despite the Warriors cutting it to four points. Pau Gasol hit a 3PT dagger (again) on the wing, Steph missed another one, then Kawhi sealed this victory with a three on the next play, 123-113.
The final comeback number was 30-15 in the 4th Quarter, after a 39-29 punch-back in the third.
Dejounte Murray had 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists to go with 2 steals and 3 blocks. The Warriors had 16 deadly turnovers. Durant went cold from long range, making only one on the night, and Klay had another rough game of 6-16 to go against Curry's solid 25 points (5 threes, 3 steals). Cousins had another strong outing of 24 points with 17 rebounds, in the hard defeat.
