Spurs edge Clippers in deja vu victory, 114-117 at home.
Leonard had some monster throw-down dunks in this game. |
Kawhi Leonard (25 points, 4 steals) got going after a slow start, throwing down a tomahawk bash and tickling the twine with a deep three-pointer that earned an instant replay to showcase his long-ball touch. Leonard and Joakim Noah (8 rebounds, 1 block) both managed to elude fouling out of the game, showing sound temperament in the clutch. Kawhi went 11-13 from the field.
Avery Bradley (14 points, 2 steals) and Leonard were a pesky duo, forcing turnovers by Los Angeles as the Spurs intermittently seized control. "We shot too many damn threes," Coach Popovich said, not fully pleased with the floor unit's decision-making. However, late in the 4th quarter, a nice Spur-fection worthy play did quiet the critics. That's not to say San Antone failed to be effective from long range, as they splashed in seventeen shots from distance. So did the Clippers, though, in this exciting contest, finishing with 11 respectively.
Two crucial turnovers late by the Clippers ended the suspense as Pau Gasol (10 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal) and Bradley swiped the ball loose shortly after the inbound both times. The highlight play of the game was Leonard's thunderous reverse dunk on the sideline in the second quarter. Dejounte Murray (19 points, 5 assists, 2 steals, 3-6 3PT) also showed confidence in his own 3PT shot that has improved noticeably as of late. Patty Mills (18 points) made four deep bangs tonight and continued to be aggressive near the basket. Bryn Forbes (8 points, 2 3PTers) showed signs of life, having been struggling severely this season to be an effective shooter.
