Gay, Noah drag Spurs past Thunder in double OT, 126-134.

Rudy Gay was on fire tonight.
In a throwdown that featured subpar showings by Kawhi Leonard and Russell Westbrook, one wouldn't expect a double overtime thriller. Thanks to Dennis Schroder (21 points, 8 assists, 3-4 3PT, 10-10 FT%) stealing the ball and hitting a clutch 3PTer at the buzzer that rattled in to notch the score at 117-all, giving the loyal fans in San Antonio some extra basketball.

Twice.

Before that surprising moment, Russell Westbrook's corner three crashed in to tie the game and just barely did Paul George miss his fadeaway jumper over Kawhi Leonard (24 points, 10 rebounds, 5 steals: 8-19/0-4 3PT).

The game started well with Andre Roberson (1-6 FT%, 3-13 FG%) stifling Avery Bradley and provoking his best game this season with 25 points, featuring a huge 3PTer on the fast break alone after a Leonard block at the rim on George got him free and his own block on Westbrook, whose team was finally out of contention to win this mini-war.

The free throw line was a location for turbulence and unpredictability, as Bradley would miss free throws that set up the miracle play by Schroder but also ice the game in double overtime along with Leonard. Joakim Noah would have a career night with 23 rebounds, 15 points, 3 blocks and 2 steals. It was Rudy Gay's night, as he jammed the ball over Paul George late and past Nerlens Noel early for 27 electrifying points with 4 steals and 6 rebounds. Gay would foul out late in double overtime, but the game was in hand by then.

Kawhi Leonard finally got some help tonight.
Iman Shumpert (9 points) had some time to shine, also, as Bradley's early shooting woes (despite 11 gutsy points in the first quarter), hitting a clutch corner 3PTer that nearly won the game in regulation. What a thought! Shump would also swat the ball to mark the halftime split, stopping a full court heave. A steal by Kawhi Leonard would lead to an easy dunk for Dejounte Murray (14 points, 6 assists), as Murray would nearly win the game in regulation also with a big 3PTer of his own. Murray stuck it through for the Spurs, after a hot start went south for Patty Mills (4-15 FG%). Tony Parker made two nice layups, but continues to have diminishing returns as the third string point guard.

In the loss, Paul George had 31 points with 10 assists, despite 11-25 shooting. Patrick Patterson had 20 points with 14 rebounds with 2 steals. Westbrook finished with 19 points and 6 assists on a lousy 7-19 performance. Steven Adams was clearly bested by Noah for just 13 points and 8 rebounds. A memorable face-off between longtime rivals, this fight saw the Spurs attempt fourteen more shots and utilize defensive strength to disrupt any real flow for OKC. The Spurs dominated the paint 66-36, also winning the fast break and second chance points column. San Antone had 17 steals to OKC's eleven, with eight less cough-ups than the Thunder.

The Spurs move to 9-7 on the season, a rocky experience so far that is beginning to show promise.
